Using oils in a bath

Add 5 to 8 drops of oil to a bath of warm water.  You can use a single oil or mix up to three oils.  Be sure to agitate the water to ensure the oil has been dispersed evenly before you get in.  If you are prone to dry skin, dilute the essential oil in 10ml of carrier oil first, as the carrier oil has added moisturising properties.  Relax for 10-15 minutes and enjoy the benefits.

Tips when using essential oils in the bath

  • Add the oil once the bath has been filled
  • Close the bathroom door before hand so that the scent remains in the room
  • Oils can leave the bath slippery, so be careful
  • Avoid contact with the eyes

Ten Best Bath Oils

If you only want to add a single oil to the bath, try one of the following:

  • 5 drops bergamont (for melancholy, depression)
  • 7 drops chamomile (for insomnia, itchy skin)
  • 8 drops frankincense (sedative, calming, mood sweetening)
  • 10 drops geranium (relaxing, but uplifting, energising)
  • 8 drops jasmine (for apathy, stress, fatigue)
  • 8 drops neroli (hypnotic, anti-depressant)
  • 5 drops patchouli (energising, invigorating)
  • 10 drops rose (romantic, happieness, pleasure)
  • 8 drops sandalwood (intimate, sensual, mellowing)

For a combination of oils, try some of the following:

The temperature of the bath also has an effect.

  • A cool bath will leave you feeling invigorated and energised
  • A warm bath is relaxing and soothes aches
  • A hot bath can leave you feeling weak. Hot baths should be avoided when you are pregnant or if you have varicose veins, heart problems or high blood pressure.
